About the role
One of our prestigious clients is hiring an E-commerce Category Manager to run a product category as a business in its own right. You will be accountable for its profit and loss, deciding where to invest in range, price and visibility, and you will lead the people who carry those decisions out.
What you'll do
- Run the category's profit and loss, balancing revenue ambition against margin and working capital.
- Decide where the range needs depth and where it should be trimmed, using sell-through and search data.
- Agree joint business plans with major brands and suppliers, including terms, exclusives and visibility commitments.
- Set the pricing position of the category against competitors and hold it consistently over time.
- Coach category executives and managers, set clear goals and review their results each month.
- Present category performance and investment proposals to senior leadership with a clear recommendation.
What you'll bring
- 7–11 years of experience in category management, buying or merchandising, with significant e-commerce exposure.
- A postgraduate management qualification, either an MBA or a PGDM.
- Proven ownership of a category's financial results, not only its sales figures.
- Negotiating experience with large brands and suppliers on commercial terms.
- A record of leading and developing a team of category professionals.
Good to have
- Experience managing more than one category over the course of your career.
- Understanding of how on-platform advertising affects category visibility and margin.
- Exposure to exclusive or private-label product development for an online channel.
