About the role
One of our prestigious clients is hiring a Senior Manager – Buying & Merchandising to lead the buying and merchandising function for fashion retail. You will connect range decisions with store sales performance and the customer experience, and guide the team that delivers them. The choices made in this role shape what customers find on the shelves each season.
What you'll do
- Set the buying and merchandising direction for each season, balancing customer demand, sales history and brand intent.
- Lead and develop the buying and merchandising team, setting clear goals and reviewing performance regularly.
- Work with retail operations leaders so ranges, quantities and allocations match how each store actually sells.
- Track sales and sell-through by category, and act early on slow lines and on strong performers.
- Decide range breadth and depth so customers find a clear, shoppable choice in every category.
- Present range plans and seasonal results to senior stakeholders, and agree priorities for the next season.
What you'll bring
- 8–13 years of experience in fashion buying, merchandising or retail operations, including time in a leadership role.
- A graduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Sound sales management judgement, reading numbers and turning them into range and allocation decisions.
- Experience managing teams and running structured performance management conversations.
- A clear sense of what customers expect when they visit a fashion store.
Good to have
- Prior experience in the fashion retail sector across several seasonal cycles.
- Exposure to vendor discussions and range reviews with senior leadership.
- Familiarity with open-to-buy planning, markdown decisions and end-of-season stock calls.
