About the role
One of our prestigious clients is hiring a News Reporter – Digital to break and follow stories for an online audience. Speed matters in this role, but accuracy matters more, and you will be trusted to deliver both.
What you'll do
- Monitor developments on your beat and identify stories worth reporting quickly.
- Gather facts in the field, by phone or online, and verify each one before filing.
- Interview officials, witnesses and experts, recording quotes precisely and in context.
- File concise, accurate news reports to tight deadlines for digital publishing.
- Update live stories as new information arrives and flag corrections openly when needed.
- Check your own copy and work with editors to tighten headlines and structure.
What you'll bring
- 1–4 years of experience as a reporter, correspondent or news writer.
- A graduate degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Media Studies or a related discipline.
- Sound news judgement and the ability to write cleanly under deadline pressure.
- Confidence in developing sources and asking direct questions.
- A firm commitment to verification, fairness and correct attribution.
Good to have
- An established set of contacts on a news beat.
- Familiarity with capturing basic photos or short videos on a phone for stories.
- Exposure to verifying social media posts and user-generated content.
